Improving the wellbeing of those on the autism spectrum and their families through surfing
Mission: To improve the wellbeing of those on the autism spectrum and their families through surfing.
Since 2016, Ocean Heroes has shared the thrill and wonder of surfing with over ten-thousand children on the spectrum Australia wide, enabling them to build self-belief in a supportive and fun environment. One of Australia’s most amazing resources is our beautiful ocean and everyone should be able to enjoy it!
Through our Free Events program we provide a bridge between autism and surfing communities creating a unique, fun, and inclusive environment. Attendance at all Ocean Heroes events is completely free, ensuring that financial barriers never stand in the way of participation. The community surfing events are a vehicle to engage with neurodiverse children, young adults and their families in a fun way to bolster social cohesion through inclusion and community participation. These events demonstrate the potential of those on the autism spectrum to the broader community and equips the participants with confidence to take into other aspects of their life. Further, it provides the local community a chance to get together for the greater good whilst developing a skillset to service their own autism community time and time again.
