About the Role

At Outerknown, Firewire Surfboards, and Slater Designs, we believe the best brands don’t just sell products—they contribute to culture.

We’re looking for a Brand Copywriter who can help shape the voice of three purpose-driven brands that sit at the intersection of surf culture, sustainability, design, and craftsmanship.

This role goes far beyond writing headlines and product descriptions. It’s about telling stories that inspire people to paddle out, travel lighter, buy better, and become part of something bigger.

Working alongside our Creative Director, Graphic Designers, and Marketing team, you’ll help define how our brands communicate across every touchpoint—from websites and email marketing to paid advertising, social media, retail, catalogs, television, and in-store experiences. Through compelling storytelling, you’ll create content that connects emotionally while supporting business growth.

This role plays a key part in developing and maintaining the voice of Outerknown, Firewire Surfboards, and Slater Designs. We’re looking for someone who’s passionate about writing, dedicated to quality, and thrives in a creative environment.

This role is office-based a minimum of four days per week, subject to business needs.

Key Responsibilities

Shape Our Voice

• Define and refine the tone of voice for Outerknown, Firewire Surfboards, and Slater Designs.
• Develop compelling narratives for athletes and ambassadors that bring their stories to life.
• Collaborate with Creative and Marketing teams to ensure content is delivered on time and on brand.
• Ensure every customer touchpoint feels unmistakably on brand—from Instagram captions and product pages to retail signage.
• Elevate content across social media, email, web, wholesale, and retail channels.
• Edit and review content across all brand platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Paid Social, Email, Websites, Wholesale, and Retail Marketing to maintain consistency of voice.
• Support the PR agency with press releases to ensure a unified brand voice across all communications.

Tell Stories That Sell

• Create work that builds brand affinity while delivering measurable business results.
• Write across multiple formats, including:
  • Brand campaigns
  • Product launches
  • Email marketing
  • SMS campaigns
  • Paid social advertising
  • Website copy
  • Catalogs and print
  • Retail and environmental graphics
  • Video scripts
  • Performance marketing creative
  • And more
• Produce direct-response copy for paid advertising, email, and SMS campaigns that combines personality with commercial effectiveness.
• Consistently generate fresh ideas that solve the communication objectives outlined in creative briefs.
• Partner with Creative and Marketing teams to develop strategic concepts and solve business challenges through compelling copy.
• Own the review, editing, and refinement of content throughout each stage of the creative process.
• Write consistently across multiple brands while maintaining each brand’s unique style and tone of voice.
• Develop content and blog strategies across both websites, taking a media-first approach that brings products, people, athletes, and ambassadors to life through engaging storytelling.
• Perform other duties as required.

Creative Concept Development

• Partner with Creative and Marketing teams to develop concepts for product launches and brand campaigns.
• Enjoy the creative process as much as the writing itself.
• Bring ideas to life across both large-scale campaigns and smaller everyday marketing initiatives.

Learn From the Work

• Use performance insights to continually improve creative output.
• Analyse metrics ranging from email engagement through to ROAS while maintaining each brand’s identity and storytelling standards.
• Balance creativity with commercial performance to continually refine the effectiveness of the work.

Skills & Experience

Essential

• 5+ years of professional copywriting experience for consumer brands or agencies.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in both brand storytelling and performance marketing copy.
• Strong understanding of social media platforms and content performance.
• Ability to write both emotionally driven brand storytelling and conversion-focused marketing copy.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
• Passion for storytelling, surf culture, outdoor lifestyles, travel, and adventure.

Preferred

• Experience working with apparel, outdoor, surf, lifestyle, or consumer brands.
• Familiarity with Asana, Bynder, Figma, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, and modern content management workflows.
