Outerknown is a premium coastal lifestyle brand co-founded by world champion surfer Kelly Slater and creative director John Moore. We create elevated, timeless products that combine style, quality, and sustainability.

Firewire Surfboards and Slater Designs represent our surfboard and accessories business, focused on elevating the surfing experience through innovative design, materials, and advanced construction.

We’re looking for a highly skilled Video Editor who lives and breathes visual storytelling. This role is perfect for someone who understands modern content, thrives on crafting compelling narratives, and can transform raw footage into engaging stories that build brand affinity while supporting commercial performance.

Approximately 70% of the role focuses on editing, with the remaining 30% dedicated to shooting content across product launches, campaigns, athlete activations, retail experiences, events, and social-first storytelling.

Working closely with our Creative and Marketing teams, as well as athletes, ambassadors and external creators, you’ll produce content that feels authentic, elevated, and unmistakably Outerknown, Firewire Surfboards, and Slater Designs.

Key Responsibilities

Video Editing

• Edit content across all brand channels including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Paid Social, Email, Website, Wholesale and Retail Marketing.
• Produce both short and long-form content aligned with brand objectives and platform best practices.
• Craft compelling narratives from campaign footage, athlete content, creator collaborations, and user-generated content.
• Complete colour grading, audio mixing, motion graphics, subtitles, and final finishing.
• Create multiple edits and cutdowns for both organic and performance marketing campaigns.
• Organise and maintain project files, raw footage, and video assets within the company’s DAM.
• Work closely with Creative and Marketing teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and on brand.
• Collaborate with Sports Marketing to edit inbound content from athletes and ambassadors.
• Stay current with emerging editing techniques, platform trends, and social content formats.

Production & Content Capture (30%)

• Capture photo and video content across product launches, campaigns, athlete shoots, retail activations, events, and social content.
• Attend surf sessions, events, and brand activations to capture original content.
• Operate camera, lighting, and audio equipment on shoots.
• Independently produce agile content when larger production crews aren’t required.
• Travel as required for campaigns, surf contests, athlete shoots, and brand events.
• Assist with pre-production planning, shot lists, and content capture strategies.
• Coordinate freelance creatives and production partners while managing allocated budgets.
• Produce educational video content for wholesale partners, retailer displays, training resources, and in-store screens.

Creative Concepting

• Collaborate with Creative and Marketing teams to develop product and brand campaign concepts.
• Turn ideas into engaging content across both large-scale productions and agile social content.
• Support larger productions through concept development, creative briefs, and production direction.
• Help develop a distinctive visual language and storytelling approach unique to each brand.

Analytics & Performance

• Understand how content performs across organic social, paid marketing, and broader brand metrics.
• Use performance insights to continually improve future creative output and storytelling.

Skills & Experience

• 3–5+ years professional video editing experience with consumer brands, agencies, publishers, or production companies.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in storytelling and social-first content.
• Advanced proficiency in:
  • Adobe Premiere Pro
  • After Effects
  • Lightroom
  • Photoshop
• Experience shooting with DSLR, mirrorless, and cinema camera systems.
• Strong understanding of social media platforms and content performance.
• Ability to edit both brand storytelling content and conversion-focused performance creative.
• Excellent organisation and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Passion for storytelling, surfing, outdoor culture, travel, and lifestyle content.

Preferred

• Experience working with apparel, surf, outdoor, lifestyle, or consumer brands.
• Motion graphics and animation skills.
• Drone certification and aerial filming experience.
• Experience with Asana, Bynder, and modern digital asset management workflows.
