General Manager Full Time
Who we are and who we need:
McTavish is an iconic Australian surf brand with a rich heritage spanning over 60 years. We are seeking a dynamic General Manager to oversee and drive the growth of our business. Reporting directly to the Board, the General Manager will be responsible for ensuring the seamless day-to-day operations of our surfboard manufacturing, apparel design, marketing, sales (Retail, eCom & Wholesale), and administrative departments.
Delivery of the key strategic priorities is imperative and include the optimising our current 2 owned domestic retail door and opening of several new domestic retail doors, a wholesale expansion into new domestic accounts and key overseas markets, and a reinvigoration of our eCommerce channel.
The role requires a hands-on leader with extensive experience in managing multi-faceted businesses, ideally within the surf, retail, eCommerce, fashion, outdoor lifestyle, or sporting goods industries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee all departments, including surfboard manufacturing, apparel design, marketing, sales (e-commerce, retail, and wholesale), and administration.
- Oversee P&L management, budgeting, and financial forecasting to ensure profitable growth across all channels.
- Collaborate with department heads to set and achieve strategic goals, streamline operations, and improve efficiency.
- Drive sales growth across our e-commerce platform, company-owned retail stores, and wholesale accounts, ensuring alignment with brand vision.
- Work with product designers to ensure our assortment is both commercial and on-brand
- Develop and implement operational strategies to optimise production, inventory management, and supply chain processes.
- Ensure a customer-first approach across all touchpoints, including retail, wholesale, and online, while maintaining McTavish’s strong brand identity.
- Foster a collaborative team culture, providing mentorship and support to department heads and staff.
- Stay attuned to market trends, customer preferences, and competitor activities, adjusting strategies as needed.
- Act as a brand ambassador, representing McTavish Surfboards at industry events, and forging relationships with key partners and stakeholders.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
Required:
- Brand Manager ready to step up
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience in senior leadership roles, ideally as a General Manager, Operations Manager, or similar, within the surf, outdoor lifestyle, sporting goods, retail or fashion industries.
- Proven track record of successfully managing omni-channel businesses, including e-commerce, retail, and wholesale.
- Strong financial acumen, with experience in managing P&L, budgets, and financial forecasting.
- Experience leading teams in product development, marketing, sales, and operations.
- Demonstrated ability to scale a business and drive revenue growth while maintaining brand integrity.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
- An appreciation for McTavish’s heritage and brand ethos.
Preferred:
- A love of surfing or beach lifestyle
- An understanding of manufacturing processes, particularly within the sporting goods or surfboard industries, is highly preferred.
- A BA in Accounting, Marketing, Business, or an MBA
Location:
Based at our headquarters in Byron Bay, with occasional travel to retail stores, trade shows, and key accounts.
